St. Thomas More High School – Educational

Davis Construction secured this £2.6 million education sector design and build project in January 2018, with design beginning on 26th February and construction starting on 8th May.

St. Thomas More High School is a Catholic school open to boys aged 11-18 and accepts girls into their sixth form. The local area of Westcliff-on-Sea is located within the Southend-on-Sea borough of Essex and due to our base of operations also being located in the area we have a strong connection to wanting to contribute to the social value this project will bring to the community.

The new two-storey teaching block is located on the existing school playground, complete with the inclusion of services and external works. Tennis courts have been constructed at the edge of the playing fields, with the associated paths also being constructed and relocation of the jump pit also having been carried out. The school was in operation throughout the project, requiring stringent health and safety procedures during the build which we delivered by instinct. 

This project involved both design and build, and we worked closely with both Ingleton Wood and our clients, St. Thomas More High School, throughout, to ensure all needs were met and all aspects of the construction were completed to the highest possible A* standards.

We delivered an innovative build and additionaly along the way engaged the pupils of the school through assemblies and site tours to teach them about what’s involved in a construction project of this scale, and subsequently taught them the comprehensive health and safety considerations, delivering on our promise to be passionate about learning.
