Davis Construction secured this £1.1 million design and build project in April 2018, with the design stage starting on 26th April and construction beginning on 8 May. Southchurch High School takes on boys and girls aged 11-19. With our Head Office based in the seaside town of Southend-on-Sea, Essex is an area we have a strong knowledge of. The project is part of the school’s wider expansion plans and we were keen to be a part of enhancing the local schooling community.
The two-storey sports hall extension contains four storage rooms, four badminton courts and a basketball court. The hall is linked to the existing school building via a single storey corridor that itself contains a locker storage area. Towards the end of the build, the sports hall was finished with external cladding, giving the building a clean, modern appearance. Timber sprung flooring was installed to reduce the impact of physical activity, lowering the chance of injuries occurring.
Working closely with our clients, Southend Borough Council, we ensured the highest standards were met. Additionally, with the works happening during term time, health and safety procedures were strictly followed by all those on site and potential disruption to the daily workings of the school was minimised as much as practically possible.
